Inter County Tournament - U13 Girls Results

Gloucestershire U13 Girls 1st team had mixed success at the 1st Round of the Inter Counties tournament, with matches against Sussex and Hampshire.

Our first match was against the home team Sussex, with Daisy playing no.3 in the team and first off against Emily Winton (ranked 35th). Daisy started the stronger, winning the first game 11-2. However Emily started to come back into the match taking it right down to a 5th game decider. Daisy went behind early on but managed to keep her cool and maintain focus to win the 5th game 11-8 and an opening 3-2 victory for Gloucestershire (11-2, 8-11, 11-6, 3-11 & 11-8).

Bhuvana, playing No.1, was next up, playing Ella Welch (not ranked), with Bhuvana comfortably winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-2 & 11-2).

Last up was Hannah, playing No.2, who was up against Katalin Johns (not ranked) and - like Bhuvana - swept aside Katalin 3-0 (11-1, 11-8, 11-3).

So one match down and 3-0 up.

Next up was Hampshire, who were very strong having 2 players ranked in the top 10.

Daisy kicked off once again, playing Georgia Hall in what was a close fought match with some great rallies. Whilst the final score was 3-0 to Hampshire (11-3, 11-5, 11-7), Daisy was starting to read Georgia’s game and as the final score shows was getting closer and unlucky not to take a game from her.

Bhuvana was then up, playing against Amelie Haworth, ranked No.6 in the country. This was a match up of power verses finesse, with the final score 3-0 to Hampshire (11-5, 11-4, 11-5). Bhuvana played really well, but Amelie just had a little bit more on the day with her court placement, catching Bhuvana out with an array of shots.

Finally up was Hannah, playing Olivia Beasant (ranked No.7 in the country). This was a really close match throughout, with some intense rallies. The first game went to 13-11, with Hannah coming back from 8-2 down and Olivia just edging the game. The second game was 11-7 to Hampshire and the 3rd game 11-5. However in the 3rd it was not clear that the match had started so Hannah dropped some early points as the scorer was not clear that the 3rd game had started.

Final score Hampshire 3 Glos 0

So 1 win and 1 defeat.  Depending on how results go elsewhere, that may be enough to take Glos 1st through to the second round.

All in all this was a really great experience for our U13 girls, who are young U13’s compared to some players in the other counties.
