Squash outreach at the Kingsway family fun run

    Hi Everyone,

Gloucestershire squash participated in an outreach programme at the Kingsway family fun run on Sunday 14th April in support of Severn Vale Rotary International and the Peid Piper Appeal.

It was great to be able to support this event as well as outreach to people and show them the mobile version of squash to develop interest. It was also an opportunity to be able to support a charity that has a personal touch due to recent personal events.

The following is a statement from a representative of the Severn Vale Rotary International who assisted the co-ordinating of the event:

The Kingsway Family Fun Run was the second time that the Rotary Club of Severn Vale had held the event, raising funds for the Pied Piper Appeal Charity Pied Piper Appeal and other Rotary Charities https://www.rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.php?ClubID=1880  (50/50 split of net proceeds). Adjusted this year to cover 3 untimed distances, 1k, 2.5 K and 5k, over local public park grounds and accessible to get people moving via a run, jog, walk, wheel or push and be fun for all the family.

All entry fees went to the charities due to the sponsorship from Andrews Estate Agents, Allcooper Security, Cass Stephens Insurance, Crowe UK, Riverside Sports and Leisure Club and Mark Toseland of Gloucestershire Squash Association more than covering the costs of staging the event. We were also supported in kind by Kingsway Runners, Tesco, Brace, Gloucester City Council, Jury’s Inn Fitness studio and Werxco.

Whilst we were down on the numbers registered due to the Easter Holiday and school half term timing, the event raised over £1300 for the charitable funds and was only a little less than last year.

This year also saw “Mini-Squash” / Squash outreach available for pre and post-run and had a number of children taking up the opportunity to have a go against the nets.

Every participant received a sponsored “goody bag” and an event medal.

Participant feedback from the event was wholly complimentary and enjoyed by all who took part or contributed to the organising / running of the event.
